Whirlpool Galaxy (M51)
I attempted to capture this galaxy with my XSi, which renders accurate color, at a very dark site. Unfortunately seeing was so poor that night that even my best frames were softened by haze. But a previous image created with the modified 50D had good detail, so I used it as a luminance channel to create this image. Unfortunately the faint fringes of the galaxies did not come through from the dark sky capture but at least this image has accurate color and pretty good detail.
